Residents in several neighborhoods will see significant changes following the approval of multiple redevelopment projects. These include the transformation of the historic Congress Theater at 2135 N. Milwaukee Ave into a mixed-use entertainment and residential venue, and the creation of the Aspire Center at 5500 W. Madison St, which will provide workforce training and manufacturing resources.
Additional investments include TIF-funded renovations for Winnemac Park and the redevelopment of the former Lakeside Theater on North Sheridan Road. The Council also authorized the acquisition of various parcels on West Madison, West Harrison, and West Lake streets to support ongoing revitalization and conservation plans.
While these development projects moved forward, the Council rejected a proposed amendment to the Municipal Code that would have prohibited the issuance of new public place of amusement licenses in specific, yet-to-be-defined areas. The Council also passed a series of routine traffic and parking regulations throughout the city.
